Independents wake customers up to organic

Some 15,000 organic breakfasts were served recently as part of the Wake Up To Organic campaign.

Hosted by the Organic Trade Board, the event is targeted at independent retailers to help drive sales of certified organic products.

The event this year saw retailers serve a total of 15,000 breakfasts on the morning of June 12, with 314 events being held across the UK, an increase of 12 per cent compared to 2018.

There was an impressive 5.6m reach on social media, with a 3.3m reach on Instagram, a rise of 15 per cent on last year. The event was trending nationally on Twitter from 9am.

The results were impressive in terms of the impact on stores, with 35 per cent reporting increased footfall and 55 per cent seeing increased sales of organic.
