Brands and producers excelling in organic have been honoured at this year’s BOOM Awards.

Run by Soil Association Certification, the Best of Organic Market (BOOM) awards ceremony saw organic brands, products and people crowned as the best in their field.

Prizes were awarded to food and drink products judged on their taste and quality by expert panels from the industry, which included Health Food Business Editor, Rachel Symonds, who was part of the judging panel for the Best Organic Snack category, which was won by Nairn’s Oatcakes for its Organic Super Seeded Oatcakes.

The final award of the night went to the Nation’s Favourite organic product, voted for by the public, with Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar crowned as the UK’s most-loved organic product following a tight contest that saw over 300 products nominated and 4,000 votes cast.

Clare McDermott, Business Development Director at Soil Association Certification, commented: “The organic market is booming, with more people than ever looking for, talking about and choosing organic. Small steps can make a big difference in supporting our environment, and by choosing organic, we are all playing our part in supporting a more sustainable food system, working with nature to protect the soil, encourage wildlife, avoid antibiotics and reduce pesticide use.

“Organic businesses have always been innovators and pioneers, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to celebrate some of the very best through the BOOM awards, which get bigger and better each year.”

Other winners included Pip Organic Rainbow Fruity Lollies with Cheeky Veg, which won the Best New Organic Product award, while the Best of Organic Chilled & Frozen accolade went to Tideford Organics for its Lentil + Spinach Dhal Soup. Clive’s Pies Organic Creamy Mushroom Pie won the Best of Organic Specialist Diet award, and Best of Organic Bakery was awarded to Daylesford Organic for its Organic Beetroot Sourdough.

Non-food and drink awards went to Locavore Community Interest Company, which won the Best of Organic Independent Retailers for its social enterprise building a more sustainable local food system, which is better for the local economy, the environment and its communities, while Clearspring was awarded the Best Organic Export Company.
