Beauty brands have been honoured for their efforts in pioneering sustainable practices.
Organic Monitor has announced the winners of its 2014 Sustainable Beauty Awards, which are designed to give recognition to organisations pushing the boundaries of sustainability in the beauty industry.
The awards, which were announced at a special reception in Paris, attracted around 100 entries, with Cruelty Free International being announced as the winner of the Sustainability Pioneer category for its global campaign to end animal-testing methods for cosmetic and personal care products. Neal’s Yard Remedies was runner-up for its sustainable sourcing projects and carbon neutral retailing.
The Sustainability Leadership went to Aveda for pioneering many sustainability projects, involving raw materials, production, packaging, renewable energy, waste management and CSR. The runner-up was Whole Foods Market.
The French company, Laboratoires Nuxe, scooped the award for Sustainable Packaging for its eco-design approach to reduce the weight of its face care jars while Surya Brasil was runner-up for using green plastics in its Sapien Women range.
Abaché Organics (Greenlab Organics) was first place in the Green Formulations category, with Zk’in by Pure & Green Organics being runner-up. And the Sustainability Lifetime Achievement was awarded to the late Horst Rechelbacher, founder of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients.
