Retailers in Ireland have been rewarded for their commitment to education with the announcement of this year’s Andrew Cape Memorial Awards.
Since its formation in 1986, the Irish Association of Health Stores (IAHS) has recognised the need for a professional and ethical approach to health food retailing and so, in conjunction with the Health Food Institute, administers two training programs each year, the Certificate and the Diploma Courses in Healthfood Retailing.
In April 2014, eight Diploma and 17 Certificate candidates sat an invigilated exam and it’s now been revealed that The Andrew Cape Memorial Award for the Highest Achiever in the Certificate in Healthfood Retailing exam has been awarded to Catherine Weld, from Organico, in Bantry. The Andrew Cape Memorial Award for the Highest Achiever in the Diploma in Healthfood Retailing exam has gone to Sandi Zavidic, of Evergreen, Mainguard Street, in Galway.
The awards, sponsored by the Natural Medicine Company, are named in memory of the late Andrew Cape, which offers a yearly opportunity to honour his outstanding contribution to the industry and to recall the industry’s determination to follow his example of unstinting attention to excellence in all aspects of health food retail, with particular focus on staff training.
